I am too confused about these two options. Cupcakes look much safe and compact than cutting a cake. But I also wish to start the new beginnings with a cake-cutting ceremony! What to do? Please help!

Um, you can keep both. This will give you a variety of desserts. Also, to keep up with a ritual you can cut a small cake!
