Career goals are different

We have different goals. I am want to go overseas for a year-long course. We couldn't come to an understanding. He says get married first and then go. And, I want him to wait another year, complete my course, come back and get married. Does it make sense to give long distance a chance or should I let my career aspirations go for now, get married and think about it later as he suggested?
