    Not necessary but for visa formalities few couple do it as the process takes time ....

    But you have to registered your wedding in Delhi now , otherwise there is fine after 3 months... so in future if your planning to settle abroad you may require marriage certificate ...

    you have to just do the formality similar to passport to get marriage certificate
