Design Help for a Timeless Piece

Kenyetta, the 3 June, 2025 at 18:43 Posted in Community Conversations 0 1

I’ve decided to customize a leather jacket as a long-term wardrobe investment. I want something that won’t go out of style in a couple years. Think classic but refined. The problem is, there are too many decisions — should I go with a moto cut, bomber, or cafe racer? And what about details like snaps vs. zippers? If you’ve designed your own, I’d love to hear which decisions you made and why. Hoping to avoid choices I’ll regret.

Hi Kenyetta, for a timeless leather jacket, focusing on classic cuts and minimal detailing is key. A cafe racer or traditional bomber style usually offers longevity because of their clean lines, while a moto cut can feel trendier. Stick to high-quality leather and neutral colors like black, brown, or tan, and choose simple hardware—zippers over snaps often look sleeker and age better. Avoid overly decorative elements that might date the jacket. Many designers also recommend tailoring the fit to your body rather than following fashion trends, ensuring it remains flattering over years. Just like checking the current time now before planning your day ensures accuracy, making thoughtful, timeless choices now will give you a jacket you’ll love for decades.
